Moussa Ahmad’s Road to Victory
Ahmad began the final day sitting in the middle of the pack. But his climb started early—three-betting Stefan Kiwisch with a weak ace and forcing a fold from an overpair on a low flop.
Not long after, Ahmad defended his big blind with 4♦2♦ against Peng Chen, flopping a wheel and extracting full value with a big river bet. “I knew he had a strong hand,” Ahmad recalled. “But when the cards line up, you have to go for it.”
The momentum kept building when Weiran Pu shoved ace-queen into Ahmad’s ace-king, handing him his first knockout and the chip lead with seven players left.
Ahmad then eliminated Krasimir Yankov in dramatic fashion—his jack-nine cracking Yankov’s king-nine with a jack on the flop. “That was the turning point,” Ahmad admitted. “From there, I felt unstoppable.”
Heads-Up with Jamil Wakil
After sending Stefan Kiwisch to the rail in third place, Ahmad entered heads-up play against Jamil Wakil with a dominant 4:1 chip lead. Wakil doubled early with trip jacks, but Ahmad remained unfazed.
“I offered a deal,” Ahmad revealed, “but Jamil wanted to play it out, so I respected that.”
The final hand was one for the highlight reels: Ahmad called a three-bet preflop with 8♣3♣, then shoved over Wakil’s continuation bet on a jack-high board. Wakil, holding pocket tens, was ahead—until the river delivered a club to complete Ahmad’s flush and crown him champion.
A Career-Best Triumph
The $1,000,000 prize marks Ahmad’s career-best result and cements his place among poker’s elite. As the first-ever GG Million$ winner at the Onyx Super High Roller Series, his name will forever be associated with the launch of one of poker’s most ambitious new events.
“This is more than just a win,” Moussa Ahmad said, holding the trophy aloft. “It’s a moment I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
