    When the Cards Stopped Turning

Picture this: You’re deep into a high-stakes game on CoinPoker, your mind razor-sharp, your strategy unfolding perfectly. The pot is swelling, the competition is fierce, and then—just as you’re about to make a game-changing move—the screen freezes.

Your heart skips a beat. The “Connection Lost” message flashes in front of you. Panic sets in. Was it your Wi-Fi? No, everything else is running fine. Frustration creeps in as you reload the page, only to find thousands of players facing the same fate.

    This wasn’t a bad beat—it was a DDoS attack.

For the uninitiated, DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) attacks are digital ambushes where hackers flood a platform’s servers with an overwhelming amount of traffic, causing everything to grind to a halt. The poker tables didn’t just pause—they disappeared into a digital black hole.

And for a platform like CoinPoker, which prides itself on decentralization and security, this was more than just an inconvenience—it was a direct challenge to everything it stands for.

Update – CoinPoker is now targeted by a DDoS attack – this is common for large poker sites and companies, and only affects players' connection to the site ('denial of service'), not their balances – refunds are being issued for both MTTs/CG. Thanks for your patience. #CoinPoker

CoinPoker: A Revolution in Crypto Poker

To understand why this attack was such a big deal, you first need to know why CoinPoker is different from traditional poker sites.

Launched in 2017, CoinPoker has carved out its place in the online poker world by embracing blockchain technology. Unlike conventional platforms that rely on centralized servers and banking systems, CoinPoker operates on a decentralized model, meaning no single entity controls it.

    This has some major perks:

    • Instant, Borderless Transactions – No waiting days for withdrawals; funds move seamlessly through crypto wallets.
    • Full Transparency – Every hand, every transaction is recorded on the blockchain, making it impossible for shady dealings to go unnoticed.
    • Fairness Through Decentralization – CoinPoker’s random number generator (RNG) doesn’t come from a hidden algorithm in a server—it’s influenced by inputs from all players at the table, making it virtually impossible to rig.

On top of that, CoinPoker is home to some of the biggest high-stakes action in online poker history. In 2022, it hosted the largest recorded online poker pot—a staggering $7.75 million in a $5,000/$10,000 Pot Limit Omaha game.

This platform was designed to be the future of online poker. But even the future isn’t immune to attacks.

    The DDoS Attack: What Happened?

On March 2, 2025, CoinPoker confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) that a DDoS attack had disrupted its servers, leading to widespread connection issues for players.

While no funds were compromised, the attack was enough to cripple real-time gameplay, leaving players frustrated and unsure about their next steps.

DDoS attacks aren’t new to online poker. Major platforms like PokerStars and partypoker have faced similar issues in the past. But the attack on CoinPoker was a stark reminder that even decentralized platforms aren’t invincible.

Why Attack CoinPoker? The Risks of Decentralized Gaming

    So why target CoinPoker?

One theory is simple: competition. CoinPoker is a growing force in crypto poker, challenging the dominance of traditional poker sites. An attack like this, if severe enough, could damage trust and drive players back to centralized platforms.

Another possibility? Cybercriminals looking for ransom. DDoS attackers sometimes demand payments in exchange for stopping the assault. Given that CoinPoker operates in the crypto space, it wouldn’t be surprising if hackers saw an opportunity to extort the platform.

But there’s also a deeper issue at play here—the vulnerabilities of decentralized systems.

Unlike traditional poker sites that have massive cybersecurity budgets and centralized control, decentralized platforms rely on distributed networks, which, while resistant to fraud, are still susceptible to targeted cyberattacks.

The real challenge for CoinPoker isn’t just recovering from this attack—it’s proving that a decentralized platform can withstand these threats and come back stronger.

    How CoinPoker Responded

To its credit, CoinPoker acted quickly.

The team reassured users that the attack did not affect funds or game integrity and that they were implementing measures to mitigate future disruptions.

This was a crucial moment. In the poker world, trust is everything. The moment players feel unsafe, they move elsewhere. CoinPoker knew this, and their transparency in addressing the issue was a step in the right direction.

Technology Behind CoinPoker: How Secure Is It?

Despite this attack, CoinPoker remains one of the most technologically advanced online poker platforms.

    Here’s what sets it apart:

    • Blockchain Transparency – Every transaction is logged on the blockchain, making it impossible to manipulate payouts.
    • Decentralized RNG (Random Number Generator) – Unlike traditional poker sites where RNGs are controlled by a central entity, CoinPoker’s RNG is influenced by player inputs, preventing external manipulation.
    • Instant Crypto Payments – By avoiding traditional banking, CoinPoker eliminates risks associated with frozen funds or delayed withdrawals.

However, the attack showed one major weakness: network infrastructure. While the blockchain elements of CoinPoker remained secure, the site’s accessibility was compromised.

This is an area where CoinPoker must invest in stronger DDoS protection, ensuring players can always access the platform—even during an attack.

    What’s Next for CoinPoker?

    The good news? CoinPoker survived.

The bad news? This won’t be the last attack.

For CoinPoker to truly cement itself as the future of crypto poker, it needs to:

    1. Strengthen DDoS Protections – Implement better infrastructure to handle attacks without disrupting gameplay.
    2. Reassure Players – Continue being transparent about security updates and improvements.
    3. Expand Game Offerings – While CoinPoker has a solid foundation, adding more formats like fast-fold poker could help it attract and retain more players.

CoinPoker has the potential to lead the crypto poker revolution, but it needs to show that decentralization doesn’t mean vulnerability.
