Finnish poker pro Eelis Parssinen has further solidified his position as one of the greatest Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO) players of all time by taking down the $100,000 buy-in PLO event at the Triton Super High Roller Poker Series in Monte Carlo. His incredible victory earned him a career-best payday of $2.27 million and pushed his total live earnings to an impressive $9.4 million.

This latest achievement underscores Parssinen’s dominance in the PLO format, where six of his seven career tournament wins have occurred, including a coveted WSOP bracelet.

    A Leader in PLO Earnings

Parssinen entered the tournament as the leader of the all-time PLO money list, narrowly ahead of American player Dylan Weisman. With Weisman’s bubble finish in this event, Parssinen has extended his lead to a commanding $6.8 million in PLO earnings.

Speaking about his success and the strong Finnish presence in the poker world, Parssinen remarked:

“We have a pretty strong community, we talk a lot of poker. That’s the best way to improve in this game. These are tough, tough weeks… playing against the best players, with my best friends. It feels surreal.”

    Finland’s Stellar Run at Triton

The Triton Series in Monte Carlo has been particularly fruitful for Finnish players. Patrik Antonius, a Poker Hall of Famer, claimed a career-high $5.1 million in the $200,000 Invitational event. Other standout Finnish performances came from Joni Jouhkimainen and Ossi Ketola, cementing Finland’s reputation as a poker powerhouse.

Highlights of the $100k PLO Event

The two-day tournament drew 87 entries, generating a massive prize pool of $8.7 million. Only the top 14 players cashed, with a minimum payout of $166,000. The star-studded field included elite players, making every elimination a significant moment:

    • Notable Eliminations Before the Final Table:
Players such as Haralabos Voulgaris, Jason Koon, and Sam Greenwood fell short of the final table but still walked away with respectable payouts.
    • Final Table Action:
Parssinen began the final table as the chip leader and maintained control throughout:
      • 7th place: Mads Amot ($409,000)
      • 6th place: Alex Foxen ($518,000) — Foxen had an exceptional series, including a $1.47M win in a $50k No-Limit Hold’em event.
      • 5th place: Poker legend Phil Ivey ($667,000).
      • 4th place: Sean Winter ($836,000).
      • 3rd place: Espen Myrmo ($1,029,000).

    Heads-Up Battle:
    Parssinen entered heads-up play against Daniel Dvoress with a slight chip advantage. Despite Dvoress’s resilience and two critical double-ups, Parssinen ultimately prevailed. The final hand saw Parssinen’s A♦ K♥ 7♦ 4♣ outlast Dvoress’s Q♠ J♥ T♠ 4♣ on a board of J♠ 7♣ 4♥ A♣ A♠.

Dvoress earned $1.563 million for his runner-up finish, boosting his career earnings to $36.7 million.
