Top Stories of 2024, #10: Triton Poker Redefines the Global High Roller Scene

When it comes to high-stakes poker tournaments, Triton Poker Super High Roller Series reigns supreme. In 2024, the series set an unparalleled standard for poker excellence, hosting some of the most lucrative and exciting events the world has ever seen. Although just eight years old, Triton Poker has cemented itself as the global leader in Super High Roller tournaments, attracting the biggest names, delivering jaw-dropping prize pools, and offering players a truly VIP experience.

Humble Beginnings to an Iconic Brand

The Triton Poker story began in 2016 with a single HK$490,000 (approx. $62,000) No-Limit Hold’em tournament held in Manila. Back then, it was a bold move for a new poker brand to enter the high-stakes arena. Fast forward to 2024, and Triton has become synonymous with luxury, excitement, and record-breaking payouts. The series has expanded rapidly, now hosting dozens of events annually, each boasting astronomical buy-ins and prize pools.

What sets Triton apart is its ability to combine the exclusivity of high-stakes poker with the glamour of world-class hospitality. The events are not merely tournaments—they’re experiences.

2024: A Milestone Year for Triton Poker

In 2024, Triton Poker solidified its status as the de facto global Super High Roller series by hosting 47 tournaments across four destinations. These events awarded a staggering $392 million in prize money, nearly matching the $437 million distributed during the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP), which hosted 99 live tournaments.

    Tournament Area

The year kicked off in March with a stop in Jeju, South Korea, featuring 17 events and a total prize pool of over $104.6 million. This series included ten events that awarded seven-figure top prizes, marking a spectacular start to the year.

Two players stole the show in Jeju:

    • Elton Tsang took home a massive $4.21 million after winning the $150,000 NLHE 8-Max event, which attracted 117 entries.
    • Roman Hrabec bested 215 opponents in the $100,000 NLHE Main Event, earning a life-changing $4.33 million.

    Budva: Montenegro’s Millionaire Factory

In May, Triton Poker arrived in Budva, Montenegro, with a 14-event schedule featuring buy-ins ranging from $25,000 to $200,000. This leg was nothing short of a millionaire factory, with eight events awarding seven-figure prizes.

    Notable highlights included:

    • Mikalai Vaskaboinikau, who captured the $125,000 Main Event and earned $4.74 million, marking one of the series’ biggest wins.
    • Wiktor Malinowski, who padded his bankroll with a whopping $4.79 million after triumphing in the $200,000 NLHE 8-Max event.
    • Artisom Lasouskii and Igor Yaroshevskyy made memorable debuts, with both players securing wins in bounty tournaments and adding over $1 million each to their career earnings.

Monte Carlo: The Crown Jewel of High Stakes Poker

By November, the series moved to Monte Carlo, known as the ultimate playground for the rich and famous. Triton Poker’s stop here lived up to its reputation, hosting 14 events that delivered unparalleled action.

    Among the highlights:

    • Patrik Antonius, fresh off his induction into the Poker Hall of Fame, captured the $200,000 NLHE Triton Invitational for $5.13 million, the largest single payout of the stop.
    • Bryn Kenney, the all-time money leader in live poker, won the $125,000 NLHE Main Event, adding $4.41 million to his already staggering career earnings.
    • Vladimiar “Gambledore” Korzinin secured $4.35 million for his win in the $150,000 NLHE 8-Max event.

Eleven events in Monte Carlo awarded over $1 million, making it one of the most lucrative stops in Triton’s history.

A Grand Finale at WSOP Paradise

Triton Poker concluded its phenomenal 2024 at the World Series of Poker Paradise (WSOPP) in December. Two events were held under the Triton banner, and they did not disappoint.

    • Alejandro Lococo, also known as the rapper “Papo MC,” made headlines by winning the prestigious Triton Million for an astonishing $12 million, one of the largest single payouts in poker history.
    • Alex Foxen, who had a remarkable year, won the $100,000 NLHE Main Event for $3.85 million, after finishing sixth in the Triton Million for $2.79 million. These results pushed his career earnings to over $42.5 million, making him one of the most successful players of all time.

    Triton’s Secret Sauce: Player-Centric Hospitality

What truly sets Triton Poker apart from other high-stakes tours is its commitment to player satisfaction. From luxury accommodations to gourmet dining, Triton treats every participant like royalty.

At the heart of this effort is Kate Badurek, Triton’s VIP Player Services Manager. She ensures that players enjoy a seamless experience, from complimentary airport transfers to personal concierge services.

    In her words:

“These players spend so much money, and the deal they get is something they deserve. I want to make sure they’re super happy. Some players have personal assistants, but many don’t. That’s where I come in.”

What Lies Ahead for Triton Poker in 2025?

With the success of 2024 still fresh, Triton Poker has already announced three stops for 2025:

    1. Jeju, South Korea (February 26 to March 14)
    2. Budva, Montenegro (May 13 to 27)
    3. Jeju, South Korea (September 3 to 23)

Given Triton’s meteoric rise, it wouldn’t be surprising to see more destinations added to the calendar, further expanding its dominance in the high-stakes poker world.
